Sony
plans to release its Project Morpheus VR headset before June 2016, according to
a new report.
Japanese newspaper Asahi reports
the company is hoping to release the device then, though it's unclear if this
is just in the Japanese market or worldwide.
The
timing of this announcement is especially interesting. Considering we have E3
in just under a month and Sony's press
conference planned for
Monday, June 15, it's sounding increasingly likely that Morpheus will take up a
chunk of the presentation.
Earlier this year, Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida
admitted several companies are working on games
for the VR headset as
we speak, with the first expected to be revealed at E3. What better time to
simultaneously narrow down a release window?
We went hands-on with Sony's VR headset earlier this year
at GDC. Check out our preview of
Project Morpheus for our impressions.
